Since 2008, I have served on the board of the Public School Foundation, an organization that raises funds for innovative programs to support students and teachers in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. The Foundation’s annual Walk for Education is an important fundraiser for our local public schools. This past year, we were able to raise over $90,000 with the walk alone. As North Carolina schools continue to face large budget cuts, these funds are more important than ever to ensure all children in our community continue to receive the best education possible.
While the Walk has been awesome, with 6,000 students participating, kids get super excited about the Carnival at Lincoln Center. Since joining the Public School Foundation, I’ve made it a personal mission of mine to ramp up the Carnival making it an awesome time for the children. My passion for the post-walk celebration has earned me the moniker “the Carnival Guy” on the Public School Foundation. I’m proud to say that over the past several years we’ve added numerous inflatables, adding more excitement every year, allowing our schools to improve their fundraising capacity.
