Jim’s Perspectives:

Care to guess what they grow a lot of in St. Vincent?

There are so many banana plantations all over this beautiful island and I was just trying to sample one a fresh one!

The main industries in St. Vincent are agriculture and tourism. Regarding agriculture, bananas used to be its primary exports and St. Vincent’s produce was known to be the finest on the planet. EU tariffs used to protect their imports into the European market, but after those expired, Central American countries flooded the market with much cheaper produce. As St. Vincent is mountainous all of its bananas must be hand-picked, dramatically increasing the labor costs versus its competitors.

This is a lush island with hills and valleys and beautiful ocean vistas.

Came across a very unusual sign in St. Vincent in 2016 … I guess there’s a problem with this there …

Nevertheless, the country’s food basket is centered in the Mesopotama Valley a breathtaking vista atop the hills. I stayed at the Blue Lagoon Hotel, which was probably one the nicest hotels on the island. Regarding tourism, St. Vincent is not the place for tourists to visit—however the Grenadines is. Mustique is the place to go. Not going to write more because don’t want the secret to get out!
